Louis De Poortere started weaving carpets in 1929 as demand grew for woven floor coverings in the finer homes across Europe. He drew on the experience of his family who were renowned cloth manufacturers stretching back to 1859. His desire for innovation lead him to explore new production techniques and put him at the forefront of the industry. It was at this early stage where he found favour with the British market who were drawn to his premium quality Oriental patterned carpets.
