30 Years of Higherground
We are excited to be celebrating our 30 year anniversary year. Over the last three decades the business has grown and enjoys a loyal following of customers, including home owners, developers and interior designers. With the advent of the internet our catchment area has reached areas we wouldn’t have dreamt about back in 1994. As well as loyal local customers we have fulfilled orders across the globe including in the US, Europe and New Zealand. Since moving to The Granary the building has been steadily transformed into a one stop shop department store of flooring. We are grateful to all our valuable customers who have supported us along this journey and continue to do so.
1994
Kimberley Carpets opens
The company was founded as Kimberley Carpets and traded from a parade of shops in Ash Vale for two years before moving to Camberley.
1996
Move to The Granary
In April the business moves to The Granary where it remains to this day. The Victorian building was built in 1899 as the sign on the rear building testifies. It is one of the oldest buildings in Camberley and as the name suggests was originally used as a warehouse for storing grain. In October of the same year the current owner Gerard McSharry joins the company with the founder.
2002
Further expansion
The Granary building contains three units and Kimberley Carpets occupies unit 3. In 2000 the photographer moves out of Unit 2 and the company grows into this additional space enlarging the showroom and adding a new entrance on Portesbery Road.
2008
Gerard McSharry takes over
Gerard McSharry buys out his joint partner to take full control of the company with the intention of growing the business under a new name.
2010
Granary refurbishment
A complete transformation of the Granary takes place over the course of six months. New suspended floors, ceilings, displays, offices and a welcoming air-conditioned showroom are built.
2011
Higherground is launched
The re-brand is completed and on the 1st January Higherground is launched against the backdrop of the worldwide banking crisis.
2014
Warehouse acquired
Business steadily grows and when Unit 1 becomes available it is acquired for a larger warehouse. The current manager Tim Aziz starts later the same year.
2015
Further growth
The new warehouse next door creates additional space in the adjoining units. Further investment sees the showroom triple in size and grows to two floors with the addition of a new wood flooring showroom upstairs.
2016
Ecommerce website
New Ecommerce website is launched to showcase the full range of flooring online for the first time. Lee Potter, our assistant manager starts in October the same year.
2018
New warehouse purchased
As the business continues to grow a new warehouse is purchased in Camberley with over 6,000sqft of space and full time staff.
2021
Luxury vinyl tiles showroom
With the new warehouse fully operational the vacated space in the Granary is converted into a new Luxury Vinyl Tiles showroom with extended wood flooring showroom above. The showroom now compromises of four separate areas over two floors extending to 6.000sqft.
2022
New website launched
The new improved e-commerce website is launched in Spring. With better layout, design and functionality it is warmly welcomed by existing and new customers alike.
