Engineered Wood Flooring

Traditionally wood flooring was constructed using solid timber. The tree was cut into boards and fitted using pins or nails. Although this method has been used for centuries, wood flooring is susceptible to moisture which can affect the boards resulting in swelling, shrinkage, and cupping. With the advent of modern manufacturing techniques it has been possible to engineer boards using several layers which overcome these issues. The cross-ply construction resists changes in moisture, and allows for long wide engineered boards offering greater choice. The top layer is solid hardwood usually 3mm - 6mm thick, which will provide a lifetime of wear. This top layer replicates the look of a solid wood floor, whilst using less timber, and saving trees which is kinder to the environment. Today you will find most wood flooring is constructed using engineered methods.
